The internationally acclaimed Johnson Extension is a family Gospel group that spans 4 generations. For almost 25 years under the leadership of Reverand Lois Dejean, Johnson Extension started when family members — choir directors themselves — tried to bring their family together; now there are kids, grandkids and great-grandkids singing traditional and contemporary Gospel with the older generation.
For the past 30 years, Rev. Lois Dejean has worked untiringly as an advocate for children, youth, and families in the New Orleans area. She is the descendent of 3 generations of Gospel ministers and musicians. She was the first female Gospel music promoter in the city of New Orleans and has worked with many national companies including Pixar, for which she produced the Gospel choir for their animated film Hunchback of Notre Dame. Rev. Dejean can be seen singing in the funeral scene in the Ray Charles biopic, Ray.
In 2003, Rev. Dejean was awarded a Mayor's Arts Award by the city of New Orleans.
